If you’ve been approved for SSI benefits, there is one more step you must take before your benefits start. Social Security refers to this step as the Pre-Effectuation Review Conference (PERC). The SSI PERC interview is to make sure that you are still financially eligible for the benefits. You will usually get a notice in the mail about your PERC a few weeks to a month after you are approved for benefits.
What to Bring to Your SSI PERC Interview
You must bring proof of your financial status to your SSI PERC interview. Commonly requested documents include:
- recent bank statements;
- lease agreements;
- mortgage payment information;
- property deeds;
- car payment information;
- boat and automobile titles;
- information about food stamps or other financial assistance;
- loan documents; and
- tax returns.
You should also bring evidence of your living arrangements. If you are living with someone else, you may want to bring that person to the interview. For example, if you live with your sister and pay rent to her, it will be helpful to have her with you. If the person you live with cannot attend the interview, you should bring a statement signed by that person. The signed statement should explain the living arrangements and indicate whether you contribute to living expenses.
