When you can expect to receive your Social Security disability payments depends on a couple of things. When Social Security pays out your benefits depends on which program you qualify for and receive benefits under.
Supplemental Security Income Payments
If you receive benefits under Supplemental Security Income (SSI), all payments are made on the same day. Payments are made on the first day of the month.
However, if the first day of the month is a weekend or holiday, payment is made the last workday before the first. For example, if the first of the month is on a Saturday, you will receive your payment the Friday before.
As an example, January 1st is always a holiday. Therefore, January SSI benefits are paid on December 31st. Unless, of course, the 31st falls on a weekend, in which case your SSI benefits will generally be paid the Friday before.
Social Security Disability Insurance Payments
If you are receiving Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (SSDI), the day of the month you can expect to be paid depends on when your birthday is.
If your birthdate is between the first and tenth of the month, your SSDI benefits are paid on the second Wednesday of the month.
SSDI benefits for birthdates that fall between the 11th and 20th of the month are made on the third Wednesday of the month.
If your birthdate is between the 21st and 31st of the month, you will receive your SSDI benefits on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
If your payment date falls on a holiday, your payment will be made the day before the holiday. For example, in 2020, the date of November payments for birthdates between the 1st and 10th of the months falls on Veterans Day (November 11, 2020). Therefore, those payments will be made on the 10th (a Tuesday) of November instead of the 11th (a Wednesday).
